Dr Lisa Käde is a lawyer at JBViniol, where she focuses on legal issues relating to artificial intelligence and Free and Open Source Software.

Her technology-oriented approach to consulting is based on her interdisciplinary education: before studying law at the University of Freiburg, she completed a dual study program in business informatics at the DHBW Stuttgart (Baden-Wuerttemberg State University of Co-operative Education) with a Bachelor of Science. During her law studies, she worked for several years as a web developer for a medium-sized mechanical engineering company.

From Freiburg, her path led her not only to Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada, where she spent a year of studies abroad, but also to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology: At the Centre for Applied Legal Studies (ZAR) there, she wrote her doctoral thesis, published in 2021, entitled ‘Kreative Maschinen’ (Creative Machines) on copyright issues of artificial intelligence along the work creation chain while working as a research assistant at the chair of Prof. Dr. Thomas Dreier, M.C.J.

With her expertise, Dr Käde bridges the gap between the requirements of technology and the legal world. She advises her clients on all issues relating to the use of AI in companies – be it questions of EU regulation, AI literacy, compliance or copyright law. Another focus of her consulting work is Open Source compliance, in particular the legally compliant and licence-compliant integration of FOSS in software development projects.

She regularly publishes and speaks on her specialist topics at legal and interdisciplinary events.
